You see social networking icons all over the place. At the bottom of this post, you can click any of those social Icons and share my article with your friends list. At the right of the screen, you can connect with me personally on my social networking profiles.

Why do I do this?

I’m sure it is obvious, if it wasn’t helping me get traffic, and generate sales, it sure wouldn’t be there! Every time someone clicks to share this article, it will appear on their own social profiles visible to all their friends, who can also share your article again on their own profile, and so on. This is what is called viral exposure. Just having a few people share your article could exponentially multiply your exposure.

Plus, every time someone shares your article, that is a backlink to your URL. But not just any backlink! Take a look at the Page Rank for some of the most popular social networking websites.

A page rank is a rating from 0 to 10, while 10 is the highest page rank you can get. Looking at the page rank of the web’s most popular social networking sites, we can see that these backlinks could be the most valuable and important backlinks to your website to increase your search engine rankings!

For Wordpress, there are several plugins you can get to easily add social networking icons to your site. Simply go to http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/ and search for the plugin types of your choice. Of course you will need to use FTP to upload the plugin to your website.

For other bloggers, you may need to manually add your social networking links and icons in the HTML code for your blog or website. Your social networking sites will give you instructions to do that!
